What did Vaskar Dutta and Avilash Karak say about his film?

Khachar Pakhi (Caged Bird) directed by Vaskar Dutta and Avilash Karak, the film explores the unraveling psyche of an unemployed screenwriter, Surjo, as he’s lured into a mysterious contract. But the drama didn’t stay on screen—the production itself became a test of willpower, improvisation, and passion.

On day one, the crucial prop hadn’t arrived. With no time to waste, Vaskar and Avilash adapted quickly, shooting alternative scenes. When the prop finally showed up the next day, the lights went out. Hours later, power was restored—but lead actor Ranajit Chatterjee, who plays Surjo, had fallen seriously ill. Refusing to delay the schedule, Ranajit powered through his scenes with a fever, delivering a performance layered with both exhaustion and intensity.

Meanwhile, Kaushik Deb, who plays the enigmatic "man," battled the suffocating heat in a heavy suit under harsh conditions in a cramped, humid room. On the third day, the team’s gimbal—a key tool for camera movement—broke down completely.

Yet, through every setback, the team pressed on. Avilash Karak, who also served as the film’s cinematographer, writer, and colorist, shaped each frame with precision and care, while Vaskar Dutta juggled direction and production duties with calm resolve.
